Technique Records: The Vinyl Destination Just Down 79th Street
Take a short walk west on 79th Street from Shoe Gallery and you will find Technique Records, an independent record shop founded in 2017. Miami New Times named it Best Record Store in 2018 and again in 2023, and one lap around the bins tells you why. Trust us, this is the kind of spot where a quick look turns into an hour of digging.
First Impressions & Vibe
The shop says it holds more than 20,000 new and used records, and that 75 percent of its stock is used, original pressings, with a focus on left-field new imports and obscure finds. It calls itself a store known for deep digging, and new arrivals drop daily, so there is always a reason to come back and flip through again.
When Miami New Times gave it the 2023 award, it pointed to row upon row of records, giant posters for cult-classic movies and a staff eager to help you find your way. FIU's Caplin News noted in 2026 that the shop often has a live DJ, which makes browsing feel more like hanging out. And the shop keeps evolving: in 2025 it announced a renovation, starting with a complete overhaul of its CD section, with its 45s next in line.
What to Shop
Vinyl is the main event, with sections on the shop's site running from jazz, Latin and funk to punk, techno and metal, plus new releases, used records, staff picks, Record Store Day exclusives and a Locals section. Beyond records you will find cassettes, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs and Blu-rays, plus turntables, cartridges, headphones, DJ equipment and vinyl care supplies. There are magazines, zines and books too, and Technique's own merch if you want to rep the shop.
Got a record collection collecting dust at home? Technique buys records, so give the shop a call before you haul the crates over.

The People Behind It
Technique was opened by Mikey Ramirez, who spent nearly 15 years as one of the main forces behind Fort Lauderdale's Radio-Active Records before making a new start as an independent retailer in Miami. "A good record store isn't just a place to buy stuff," he told Miami New Times before opening day. The shop started at 853 NE 79th Street, and in October 2019 it moved across the street to 880 NE 79th Street, a space almost double the size of the original.
It has become a real gathering spot, too. For Record Store Day Black Friday in 2023, Miami New Times reported a giant sidewalk sale, a food pop-up and local DJs spinning all day, and in July 2025 the shop lined up a free meet-and-greet and record signing with Miami bass group Rufftown Mob.
