MiMo Art and Custom Picture Framing: Your Art, Framed Right Here on 79th Street

Got a print rolled up in the closet, a photo that deserves better than a drugstore frame, or a jersey sitting in a drawer? Bring it to MiMo Art and Custom Picture Framing, a full-service custom framing shop a short walk west of Shoe Gallery on 79th Street. Everything is custom made right there on site. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood shop you're glad to have around the corner.

A Neighborhood Shop With Gallery Standards

MiMo's philosophy is right there on its website: "a good piece of art deserves a good frame." The shop says it works directly with local and international galleries and takes part in the international Miami art fairs. It also says it deals with the best suppliers in the country, carries a great selection of frames and takes pride in the quality of its workmanship. According to the site, its clients include art galleries, museums and collectors, along with neighbors from Miami Beach, Miami Shores, Belle Meade, El Portal, Aventura, Wynwood and Miami.

MiMo also points out that more artists who once skipped framing are now asking for archival framing, and archival custom framing sits at the top of its services list. It describes its spot as right at the JFK Causeway with easy access to Miami Beach, so it's an easy stop on the way to or from the beach.

What to Bring In

Here's what MiMo lists on its services menu:

  • Custom picture framing for art and photographs
  • Canvas stretching for artists and galleries
  • Photo mounting, including photos on Sintra or plexi
  • Boxed framing for jerseys, sports memorabilia and other objects
  • Custom-framed mirrors

On materials, the shop uses acid-free rag mats and Tru Vue museum glazing, and its listed partners include Larson-Juhl, Roma Moulding and Complete Framers. Collector's note: if you've got a keepsake you'd rather see on the wall than in a box under the bed, ask about boxing it.

The examples on MiMo's website show the range: a soccer jersey boxed behind a pink-lined mat with an engraved plaque, a black and white photograph set in an 8-ply mat with a white frame, and bold prints in slim frames. Whatever you bring, the goal is the same: a frame that does the piece justice.

Know Before You Go

Make a day of it: drop your piece off at MiMo, then head east on 79th Street to Shoe Gallery at 1060 NE 79th Street. Frame the art, then come pick out the kicks. We take care of the things we love around here, on the wall and on your feet.
