Caracas Bakery MiMo: Cachitos, Sourdough and a James Beard Nod on Biscayne
Some mornings call for a real breakfast. Caracas Bakery's MiMo location is on Biscayne Boulevard near 73rd Street, a quick trip from Shoe Gallery: head west on 79th Street to Biscayne, then south about six blocks. Time Out calls it a family-run Venezuelan bakery and breakfast spot, and trust us, the cachitos alone are worth the trip.
First Impressions & Vibe
Caracas started in 2014 with what the bakery calls a personal obsession with sourdough, shared with friends and family. That passion project became the first bakery in Doral in 2019, then the full-menu MiMo spot, and in late 2024 a new home in Coral Gables. MiMo is the one with the most going on: according to the bakery, its breakfast menu is only served here.
When Time Out reviewed it in 2023, it described the space as bright, modern and welcoming, with vinyl records lining the walls, indoor and outdoor tables, and an open kitchen where you can watch the bakers work the dough.
What to Order
Start at the pastry case. The cachito, a soft, golden roll, is what The Infatuation says made it fall in love with the original Doral bakery (get the ham and cheese), and Time Out's move is a ham cachito with a chocolatine croissant. The case changes, but Time Out also spotted Danishes, almond croissants, quiche, loaf cakes, palmeritas and cruffins.

Staying for breakfast? The MiMo menu includes:
- Toasts: Pan con Tomate on sourdough, Avocado Toast, Mushroom Toast, Salmon Toast, and a Merguez Toast with lamb sausage, harissa mayo and soft scrambled eggs.
- The B.E.C.: soft scrambled eggs, thick-cut bacon and American cheese on a sweet potato bun.
- Sandwiches: the Croix Sandwich on a croissant, a Jambon Beurre with Comté, and a Turkey Club.
- Lighter picks: a frittata and a homemade passion fruit yogurt bowl with granola or seasonal fruit.

The People Behind It
Caracas Bakery is a family story. In a 2020 Miami New Times feature on the then-new Doral bakery, father and son Manuel and Jesus Brazon explained how they each found their way to sourdough on their own. Manuel had spent four years at the shaping table at Zak the Baker, and here's a neighborhood twist: back in 2014 he worked the kitchen at Mina's Mediterraneo, a now-closed spot on NE 79th Street.
In 2024, the James Beard Foundation named Jesus and Manuel Brazon of Caracas Bakery nominees for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker. Not bad for a sourdough habit that started at home.
