NIKELAB x STONE ISLAND SOCK DART MID Obsidian/Light Orewood Brown/Light Orewood Brown 910090-400
The Sock Dart was, unquestionably, a shoe ahead of its time. A minimalist silhouette, knit upper, and flexible, free running style sole may be well established elements of running design now, but in 2004, they were not things thats too many people had seen before. Contrast a shoe like the Sock Dart with NikeÕs other major running project of the era, Shox, to get an idea of how different this type of design really was.
The Sock Dart became an instant hit with fashion tastemakers in the sneaker world, conferring genuine cult classic status in the process. Various reissues over the years have been snapped up by eager fans, but it turns out the Sock Dart was just getting started.
Nike have partnered with Stone Island on the most progressive Sock Dart design yet. The Italian sportswear brand have cultivated a loyal following with their signature mix of effortless style and astounding technical innovation. Stone IslandÕs ability to transform readily recognizable garments into something overtly functional make them the perfect collaborative partner.
Stone IslandÕs technical wizardry is on full display here, as they transform a shoe with a knit upper (with sock right in the name) into a water resistant mid-top. The extended silhouette is just the very tip of the iceberg. A silicon print applied to the upper, the sealing off of the traditionally perforated strap closure, and an Ariaprene fabric ankle collar keep out moisture while maintaining the Sock DartÕs breathability.ÊÊ
A textured effect on the upper, and subtle co-branding featuring the Stone Island compass alongside the Nike swoosh, put the finishing touches on this upgraded edition of the Sock Dart.
